Dear Evan Hansen

Evan Hansen is a high school student whose severe social anxiety leaves him isolated from his classmates. Following advice from his therapist, he writes letters to himself as a way of coping. When one of those letters falls into the hands of a fellow student named Connor Murphy, and Connor dies by suicide shortly afterward, Connor's family takes the letter to be their son's final message. Evan is drawn into their assumption and lets it stand, gaining the acceptance and attention he has long wanted while the truth becomes harder to manage.

The film is a drama directed by Stephen Chbosky, working from a screenplay by Steven Levenson, and it followed Chbosky's earlier features The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Wonder. It is the third of the four films he has directed to date. Ben Platt plays Evan, heading a cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Adams, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani and Julianne Moore.
