The Dry

Federal agent Aaron Falk travels back to the rural town he left more than twenty years earlier to attend the funeral of his childhood friend Luke, who is said to have killed his wife and son before taking his own life. The community is suffering through a long drought, and many of its residents doubt that Luke was capable of such violence. Reluctantly, Falk agrees to look into what happened, and his inquiries lead him back to an unresolved case from his youth: the death of seventeen-year-old Ellie Deacon, a friend he and Luke once shared. As he tries to establish Luke's innocence alongside his own, he faces the suspicion and accumulated anger of a town worn down by years of hardship.

The film is a crime mystery and thriller directed by Robert Connolly, who wrote the screenplay with Harry Cripps. It followed The Bank and The Turning in Connolly's filmography and was itself followed by Blueback and Force of Nature: The Dry 2. Eric Bana plays Falk, with Genevieve O'Reilly as Gretchen Schoner, Keir O'Donnell as Greg Raco, John Polson as Scott Whitlam, Matt Nable as Grant Dow and Eddie Baroo as McMurdo among a credited cast of twenty-four.

Made across Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, the film took about 16 million dollars worldwide. It holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 40,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from roughly 874 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 7.2 out of 10 from 99 reviews.
