Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Arthur Curry, now balancing his duties as king of Atlantis with life as a father, faces a new threat when David Hyde, known as Black Manta, gains the power of the Black Trident. Still driven by a desire to avenge his father's death, Hyde unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To counter it, Arthur turns to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, forming an uneasy alliance with the man he himself put behind bars. Together they must set aside their conflict to protect Atlantis, Arthur's family and the wider world from irreversible destruction.

James Wan directed the film, his twelfth feature and a direct follow-up to his 2018 Aquaman. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the screenplay, and James Wan, Rob Cowan and Peter Safran produced. Jason Momoa leads the cast as Arthur, alongside Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Randall Park as Dr. Shin, Amber Heard as Mera and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.

Released in December 2023, the film cost about 205 million US dollars to make and took roughly 440 million dollars worldwide, a return well short of what its budget would normally require. Audiences were lukewarm: it holds 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB from a few thousand votes and 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from a much larger base of over a hundred thousand. A film critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 213 reviews puts professional opinion below even the lower audience figure. The film runs 124 minutes.
