Chris Sarandon, who played Jerry Dandridge in the original 1985 film *Fright Night*, played the role of the highway driver in a cameo appearance.
Colin Farrell stated that he would deliver his monologue in Latin because it would sound “more menacing.” He even took Latin lessons with a teacher. The monologue did not make it into the film, however, the teacher was so impressed that she subsequently wrote a scientific paper about her time on set.
During the filming of one scene, Colin Farrell went too far and bit stuntman Christopher Mintz-Plasse to the point of drawing blood with prop teeth.
The car chase scene was filmed in one long take. Footage of the location and motorcycle was added to the image later.
Steven Spielberg's contribution to the film amounted to the following: footage of a crucifix falling into a pool directly in front of the camera was inserted (after Colin Farrell attacks Christopher Mintz-Plasse); when Colin Farrell's appearance proved not frightening enough, at Spielberg's suggestion, the filmmakers returned to the original concept of a jaw resembling a shark's jaw.
Colin Farrell's makeup had five stages, with the final stage (when Charlie fights in the basement) created using computer technology.
