Position Among the Stars

This documentary explores the economic shifts and globalization within Indonesian society. The narrative focuses on a family living in the slums of Jakarta, viewed through the perspective of Rumidjah, an elderly Christian woman. The film highlights societal tensions and contradictions by contrasting Rumidjah's life with that of her granddaughter Tari and her sons Bakti and Dwi.

Directed by Leonard Retel Helmrich, the film serves as the third part of a documentary trilogy that includes Eye of the World and The Outlines of the Moon. The screenplay was written by Helmrich and producer Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich. A co-production between the Netherlands, Indonesia, and the Netherlands Antilles, the film earned a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the award for best feature documentary at the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival.
