Angel Eyes is a romantic drama set in Chicago, where police officer Sharon Pogue works in one of the city's roughest districts. Devoted to her job and estranged from her family, she lives alone and carries the weight of a troubled past. During a chase, she is ambushed and nearly killed, but a stranger intervenes and disarms her attacker, saving her life. The man, known as Catch, seems familiar to her even though she cannot place him. The two begin meeting outside of work and fall in love as fragments of memory and unresolved history begin to surface. Both are haunted by painful experiences they have avoided confronting, and their relationship pushes each of them to face what they have long kept buried.
Luis Mandoki directed the film, which sits between Message in a Bottle and Trapped in his filmography. Gerald Di Pego wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Jennifer Lopez as Sharon, Jim Caviezel as Catch, Jeremy Sisto, Terrence Howard, Sônia Braga and Victor Argo.
Released in May 2001, the film had a budget of 53 million US dollars and earned around 30 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 132 reviews, while on TMDB its rating is 6.1 out of 10 from 505 votes, indicating a modest audience response relative to its critical reception.
