Short description

Erik Blake has brought three generations of his family from Pennsylvania to his daughter's apartment in lower Manhattan for Thanksgiving dinner. As night falls, unsettling things begin to happen in the building, and tensions among the relatives rise. The film was adapted by its director, Stephen Karam, from his own stage play, and it stays largely within the cramped apartment where the meal takes place, letting the gathering's underlying anxieties and resentments come to the surface.

Karam wrote and directed the film, his first feature. A24 and IAC Films produced it. Richard Jenkins plays Erik, with Jayne Houdyshell as Deirdre, Amy Schumer as Aimee, Beanie Feldstein as Brigid, Steven Yeun as Richard, and June Squibb as Momo.

The film was released in late November 2021 and runs 106 minutes. It drew a 7.4 out of 10 rating from 142 critics' reviews, while audiences were less enthusiastic: on IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from about 12,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 229 votes. That gap suggests critics responded more positively to the film than general viewers did.
