Bolero

Bolero follows Ayre MacGillivery, a wealthy young American woman in the 1920s who, having come into her inheritance on finishing her education, sets out to find the right man to become her first lover. Her search takes her from England to North Africa and then to Spain, where she becomes involved with a bullfighter named Angel Contreras. A friend and a butler travel with her and help arrange the encounters along the way, among them a meeting with an Arabian sheikh.

The film was directed and written by John Derek and produced by Bo Derek, who also stars as Ayre, alongside Andrea Occhipinti, Ana Obregón, Ian Cochrane, Mirta Miller and George Kennedy. It was John Derek's second feature as director, following Tarzan the Ape Man three years earlier, and was made by Cannon Group and Golan-Globus Productions on a budget of about seven million dollars.

Released in August 1984, Bolero took in roughly nine million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost. Audiences have consistently rated it very low: on IMDb it holds 3 out of 10 from around 6,400 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 3.5 out of 10 from about 114 votes. The small TMDB sample and the larger IMDb sample point to the same assessment.
