Chhapaak is a Hindi drama centred on Malti, a young woman who survives an acid attack on a New Delhi street. The film follows her long road back: hospital treatment and reconstructive surgery, the police investigation and the court case against her attacker, and the slower work of emotional recovery. Deepika Padukone plays Malti, with Vikrant Massey as Amol, a man who becomes part of her life and her fight. The story is fictionalised but draws on the real experiences of an acid attack survivor.
Meghna Gulzar directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Atika Chohan, and produced alongside Deepika Padukone and Govind Singh Sandhu. It was Gulzar's third feature, arriving after Just Married (2007) and Raazi (2018) and before Sam Bahadur (2023) and Daayra (2026). The supporting cast includes Madhurjeet Sarghi, Anand Tiwari, Vaibhavi Upadhyay and Payal Nair.
Released in January 2020, the film runs just over two hours and took about 1 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from roughly 28,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 37 votes, a gap that reflects how few users have rated it there.
