Kinjite: Forbidden People is a 1989 crime thriller set in Los Angeles. Lieutenant Crowe, a vice squad officer known for his harsh methods, has spent years trying to bring down Duke, a pimp who trafficks underage girls. When the teenage daughter of a wealthy Japanese businessman is abducted and forced into prostitution, Crowe takes on the search. The case becomes personal for him: his own daughter has recently been harassed by a Japanese man, and the missing girl is also Japanese. Crowe must set aside his prejudices and personal hostility to pursue the investigation.
The film was directed by J. Lee Thompson, the twenty-first of twenty-one films he directed in chronological order, following Death Wish 4: The Crackdown in 1987. Charles Bronson, who had worked with Thompson before, stars as Crowe, with Perry Lopez, Juan Fernández, James Pax, Peggy Lipton and Sy Richardson in supporting roles. Harold Nebenzal wrote the screenplay, and Pancho Kohner produced. The production, from Cannon Group and Golan-Globus Productions, had a budget of 5 million US dollars and returned 3 million worldwide, a shortfall reflecting its poor commercial performance. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 out of 10 from around 4,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.6 out of 10 from 111 votes, indicating a modest audience response and a limited following.
