Cinderella is a musical reworking of the familiar fairy tale, centred on an ambitious young woman whose dreams reach beyond the world she lives in. Held back by her stepmother and by the expectations placed on her, she finds an unexpected ally in her Fabulous Godmother, known as Fab G, and sets out to turn her plans into reality. A chance meeting with Prince Robert, who is more interested in love than in politics or the throne, draws her toward the palace and a ball where she might meet people who value her talents.
Kay Cannon wrote and directed the film, the second of the three features she has directed, following Blockers in 2018 and preceding My Ex-Friend's Wedding in 2024. Camila Cabello plays Cinderella, with Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert, Idina Menzel as Vivian, Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan, Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice and Tallulah Greive as Princess Gwen. James Corden, Shannon McIntosh and Leo Pearlman produced the United Kingdom and United States co-production, which runs 112 minutes and blends comedy, fantasy and romance.
Critical response was poor: critics rated it 4.9 out of 10 across 135 reviews, and on IMDb viewers gave it 4.4 out of 10 from around 50,000 votes. On TMDB the rating stands at 6.3 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 1,500 votes, so the audience picture is split, with a modest but warmer result there.
