Autumn is a quiet seventeen-year-old living in rural Pennsylvania, where she works as a supermarket cashier and keeps largely to herself. When she discovers she is pregnant and cannot count on help from her family or her community, she and her cousin Skylar scrape together what money they can and take a bus to New York City, hoping to obtain an abortion. The two girls arrive in a city they do not know, with the address of a clinic and no place to stay, and the trip tests their resourcefulness and their loyalty to each other.

Eliza Hittman wrote and directed the film, her second feature after Beach Rats in 2017. Sidney Flanigan plays Autumn and Talia Ryder plays Skylar, with supporting turns from Théodore Pellerin, Ryan Eggold and Sharon Van Etten. Produced by Adele Romanski and Sara Murphy for Tango Entertainment, BBC Film, PASTEL and Cinereach, the British-American production runs 101 minutes.

The film drew strong notices on release, earning a critics' rating of 8.6 out of 10 from 245 reviews, well above its audience scores: 7.4 on IMDb from around 30,000 votes and 7.1 on TMDB from roughly 600 votes. That gap suggests critics responded to the film more enthusiastically than general viewers did.
