Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar
Short description
Barb and Star are best friends living in a small Midwestern town, and they have never traveled anywhere until they decide to take a vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida. Once there, the trip they imagined gives way to unexpected romance and a run-in with a villain whose scheme threatens everyone in the town.
Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo wrote the screenplay and star as the two friends, with Wiig playing Star alongside a second role and Mumolo playing Barb. Jamie Dornan, Damon Wayans Jr., Vanessa Bayer and Fortune Feimster round out the principal cast, and Will Ferrell, Wiig and Adam McKay produced the film for Lionsgate and Gloria Sanchez Productions.
Josh Greenbaum directed this comedy, which followed his earlier films Becoming Bond and Too Funny to Fail, both from 2017, and came before Strays and Will & Harper. It runs 107 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 from around 22,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from roughly 284 votes, a small sample suggesting a modest reception among those who have logged it.
What's left behind the scenes
- Fritz Gordon played the concierge Gary. As a rule, daytime temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius, so the actor was literally drenched in sweat in his three-piece suit. As a result, they decided to wet the entire suit so that sweat stains would no longer be visible on it.
- The water scene towards the end of the film was shot in the open sea, not in a pool or a water-filled tank.
- During the action scene with Barb, played by Annie Mumolo, alligators were in the water with the actress. She learned this from director Josh Greenbaum only after filming was completed.
