My Little Pony: A New Generation
Short description
My Little Pony: A New Generation takes place in Equestria, a land where the magic has faded. Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns no longer mix and have come to distrust one another. Sunny Starscout, an idealistic Earth Pony, refuses to accept this, and she sets out to bring friendship and enchantment back to the world. She joins forces with the unicorn Izzy Moonbow, and together they travel far from home, meeting Pipp Petals, Zipp Storm and Hitch Trailblazer along the way. Each of the new friends brings a different talent to the group, and their journey takes them through distant lands and considerable danger as they work to reunite the pony kinds.
The animated adventure was directed by Robert Cullen, José Luis Ucha and Mark Fattibene, from a screenplay by Tim Sullivan and Gillian M. Berrow, and produced by Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis. It comes from Entertainment One and Boulder Media, with Ireland and Canada among its production countries, and runs 90 minutes. The voice cast is led by Vanessa Hudgens as Sunny, Kimiko Glenn as Izzy, James Marsden as Hitch, Sofia Carson as Pipp, Liza Koshy as Zipp and Ken Jeong as Sprout, among 28 credited performers. Released in September 2021, the film took in about 4 million USD worldwide, a modest figure for an animated family release. Audiences are warmer: it holds 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 5,100 votes, and 7.6 out of 10 on TMDB from 354 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is a kind of sequel to the television series "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" (2010-2019), with its characters presenting the events of the series as ancient legends. It is assumed that by the time of the events depicted in the film, the heroes of the series are long gone.
- The film's premiere in cinemas worldwide was originally scheduled for September 24, 2021, with "Paramount Pictures" serving as the distributor. The coronavirus pandemic led to the cancellation of the premiere, and "Netflix" acquired the rights to the first showing of the film on its streaming platform. The film had a theatrical release only in Russia.
