Deathcember is a horror anthology structured like an advent calendar. The film consists of 24 short stories, each corresponding to a day in December, that explore a dark and frightening side of the holiday season. These diverse segments, contributed by international directors, are connected by brief animated sequences.
The production is a joint effort between Germany and Serbia, produced by Talking Wolf Productions, Deathcember, and Magna Mana Production. The project features a large ensemble with 199 credited cast members, including Barbara Crampton, Tiffany Shepis, AJ Bowen, Jeffrey Reddick, Haydée Lysander, and Marie Nasemann. The screenplay was written by Julian Richards, Isaac Ezban, and Trent Haaga.
The film was directed by a wide collective of filmmakers. For some, such as R. Zachary Shildwachter, Sam Wineman, and Michael Varrati, this was their first project. Others were more established; Lucky McKee had directed nine films prior to this, and Ruggero Deodato had directed eight. Other contributors include Isaac Ezban, who had three previous credits, and Milan Todorović, who had one. The audience response has been mixed, with a rating of 4.6/10 on IMDb based on 1,100 votes and a slightly higher score of 5.3/10 on TMDB from 57 votes.
