Kate
Short description
Kate is a professional assassin working in Japan under the guidance of Varrick, a mentor who has been a father figure to her since childhood. After a job in Osaka goes wrong when she hesitates in front of a child, she considers leaving the trade behind. Before she can, a later assignment ends badly and she wakes in a hospital to learn she has been poisoned and has less than a day left to live. Rather than accept her death, she sets out to find whoever is responsible, and along the way she forms an unexpected bond with Ani, the daughter of a man she once killed.
The film is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, following his 2016 debut The Huntsman: Winter's War, from a screenplay by Umair Aleem. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Kate, with Miku Martineau as Ani and Woody Harrelson as Varrick. Tadanobu Asano, Jun Kunimura and MIYAVI appear in supporting roles. Produced by Kelly McCormick, Patrick Newall and Bryan Unkeless, the film is a Japanese and American production with a budget of 25 million dollars.
Kate received mixed notices: critics rated it 5.2 out of 10 across 95 reviews, while audiences were somewhat warmer, with 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 77,000 votes and 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB.

- The character played by Miyavi is watching the science fiction series "Message from Space: Galactic Battle" (1979) on television.
- The original script was written in October 2017, but work on the film only began at the end of 2018.
- Ani, played by Miku Martineau, tells Kate, portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, that she looks like the Terminator in sunglasses. Later, the character removes her sunglasses, and the audience sees her reddened left eye and, in general, the left side of her face, which is another reference to the legendary killing machine.
