The Whaler Boy

A fifteen-year-old hunter named Lyoshka lives in a remote village on the Chukotka peninsula, where he spends his time whaling. His quiet life is disrupted when the internet arrives in his community, leading him to fall in love with a girl from Detroit whom he meets through a video chat. Driven by this infatuation, the teenager decides to undertake a dangerous journey across the Bering Strait to find her in America.

The drama was directed and written by Philipp Yuryev, marking the first of two films he has directed. Produced by Alexey Uchitel, the movie features Vladimir Onokhov in the lead role alongside Kristina Asmus, Vladimir Lyubimtsev, Nikolai Tatato, Arieh Worthalter, and Mariya Chuprinskaya. This production was a collaboration between Russia, Belgium, and Poland, with a budget of 50 million USD.
