Moneyball
Short description
Moneyball follows Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland Athletics, as he rebuilds his roster after losing his best players to wealthier clubs. Working with Peter Brand, a young economics graduate, he turns to statistical analysis to judge players that conventional scouting has overlooked. His approach meets resistance from the team's manager, the press, the fans and the sport's establishment.
Bennett Miller directed the film, his third feature after The Cruise and Capote; Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, and Brad Pitt produced as well as starring. Pitt plays Beane, with Jonah Hill as Brand, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Art Howe, Robin Wright as Sharon, Chris Pratt as Scott Hatteberg and Stephen Bishop as David Justice. The production cost about 50 million USD and took roughly 110 million USD worldwide.
Audience response is favorable: on IMDb the film holds 7.6/10 from around 506,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.3/10 from about 6,000 votes. A critics' rating of 8/10 from 273 reviews places it slightly above those audience scores.
