The Silencing
Short description
The Silencing centres on Rayburn Swanson, a former hunter living in isolation on a wildlife sanctuary after his teenage daughter was abducted five years earlier. His retreat into drinking and self-destruction is interrupted when young women are found killed in the surrounding woods. Teaming up with local sheriff Alice Gustafson, Rayburn sets out to track the murderer, and begins to suspect the killer may be the same person who took his daughter.
The film is directed by Robin Pront, following his 2015 debut The Ardennes and preceding Zillion in 2022, from a screenplay by Micah Ranum and produced by Cybill Lui. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays Rayburn, with Annabelle Wallis as Sheriff Gustafson, Zahn McClarnon as Blackhawk, Melanie Scrofano as Debbie, Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Brooks and Patrick Garrow as Jim Needles, among a credited cast of 23.
Released in July 2020, the Canada-United States production runs 93 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 38,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from 849 votes. A film critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 25 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
