Park Tae-goo is a gangster who becomes a pawn in a feud between two criminal organizations. Betrayed by the people he served, he loses his sister and niece and retaliates against those responsible before fleeing to Jeju Island. There he meets Kim Jae-yeon, a woman with little time left to live, and the two form a bond while a determined gang enforcer named Ma Sang-gil closes in on him.
Park Hoon-jung wrote, directed and produced Night in Paradise, the fifth film in his directing career after New World, The Tiger, V.I.P. and The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion. Um Tae-goo and Jeon Yeo-bin play the leads, with Cha Seung-won as Ma Sang-gil and Lee Ki-young, Hyun Bong-sik and Cho Dong-in in supporting roles.
Made in Korea by Next Entertainment World, Peppermint&company and Goldmoon Film, the film runs 131 minutes and blends action, crime and thriller elements. Its ratings are moderate and consistent: on IMDb it has 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 11,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9 from a much smaller base. A critics' score of 6.7 from 19 reviews sits close to the audience figures, indicating a generally similar reception on both sides.
