Mickey Mouse brings home a Christmas tree, unaware that two chipmunks, Chip and Dale, are living inside it. Once the tree is set up in his house, the chipmunks explore the decorations, finding candy canes and a bowl of nuts to their liking. Pluto notices the intruders and tries to alert Mickey, who does not understand what his dog is trying to tell him. The chase that follows soon turns the festive scene upside down. Later, Minnie, Donald and Goofy arrive to sing carols.
The short was directed by Jack Hannah, a specialist in Disney animation who had previously directed Straight Shooters, Winter Storage and Lambert the Sheepish Lion, and would go on to direct Bearly Asleep. Walt Disney produced. The voice cast, none of whom are credited on screen, includes James MacDonald as Mickey and Chip, Dessie Flynn as Dale, Clarence Nash as Donald, Ruth Clifford as Minnie, and Pinto Colvig as both Pluto and Goofy.
Released in November 1952 as part of the Pluto cartoon series, the seven-minute film is rated 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb from around 4,100 votes, and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from about 158 votes. The two audience scores sit close together, indicating a generally consistent response to the short across both platforms. It remains one of the more widely seen entries in the series.
