Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll

Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll follows Violet, a former soldier who now works as a letter writer, as she takes on a new assignment at a school for young women of noble families. Isabella York, a wealthy heiress, is being trained in the manners expected of a lady before an arranged marriage, but she regards the school as a prison rather than a privilege. Violet is brought in to instruct her, and through their time together she helps bridge the distance between Isabella and Taylor, the younger sister she was separated from years earlier, and to put Isabella's true feelings into a letter.

The film is an animated drama from Japan, released in 2019 and running 90 minutes. It was directed by Taichi Ishidate and Haruka Fujita. Ishidate's earlier features were the two Beyond the Boundary films of 2015, and this is his third, followed by Violet Evergarden: The Movie (2020) and Violet Evergarden: Recollections (2021). For Fujita, this is the first of two directing credits, the second being Recollections. Tatsuhiko Urahata and Takaaki Suzuki wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Yui Ishikawa, Minako Kotobuki, Aoi Yuki, Koki Uchiyama, Takehito Koyasu and Aya Endo.

It earned around 11 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from about 8,400 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 8.1 from roughly 481 votes. A film critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from five reviews places critical and audience responses close together.
