What's left behind the scenes
- At the beginning of the film, a title card states that the movie is based on true events, but this claim is not entirely accurate. Screenwriters Jim Birman and Tristan Segel drew inspiration from things that happened to their relatives and friends, things they had read about, or what they saw in films such as the crime comedy 'Police Squad!' (Claude Zidi, 1984), the comedy 'Dinner Game' (Francis Veber, 1988), the drama 'Broken Flowers' (Jim Jarmusch, 2005), the thriller 'Nightcrawler' (Dan Gilroy, 2013), and, in general, the films of John Hughes, Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly, and Francis Veber.
