Military Wives

When the soldiers of a Yorkshire garrison are deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, the women left behind on the base look for a way to fill the anxious months of waiting. Kate, an officer's wife who has long presided over the base social committee, clashes with Lisa, a more rebellious newcomer who has taken over the role. The two women differ on almost everything, but a suggestion to start singing together gradually draws in a group of wives and partners whose lives otherwise revolve around the same routines and the same worries. The choir becomes a shared project, and the friendships formed through it carry the women beyond the base.

Peter Cattaneo directed the film, his third feature after The Full Monty and The Rocker, working from a screenplay by Rachel Tunnard and Rosanne Flynn. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Kate and Sharon Horgan plays Lisa, with Amy James-Kelly, Lara Rossi, Gaby French and Emma Lowndes among the supporting cast; the production credits 62 cast members and 101 crew. Released in March 2020, the British drama runs 113 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from around 6,500 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 from roughly 200 votes, similar scores from audiences of quite different sizes.
