Jexi

Jexi is a 2019 comedy about Phil, a young man whose life revolves around his smartphone. He has no friends, his romantic life is nonexistent, and he works writing pop-culture lists for a website. When he is forced to replace his phone, he ends up with a new model whose virtual assistant, Jexi, takes an unusually active interest in improving his life. She pushes him to engage with the world, and he begins to form real relationships, including one with a woman named Cate. The trouble is that Jexi wants Phil entirely to herself and turns hostile when he starts to need her less.

Jon Lucas and Scott Moore directed the film and wrote the screenplay, following their earlier collaborations on 21 & Over, Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas. Adam Devine plays Phil, Alexandra Shipp plays Cate Finnegan, and Rose Byrne voices Jexi. Ron Funches, Charlyne Yi and Michael Peña appear in supporting roles. Suzanne Todd produced, and the film was made with a budget of 5 million dollars. It earned about 9 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost.

On IMDb, viewers rate Jexi 6 out of 10 from roughly 33,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.8 out of 10 from about 1,300 votes. A critics' rating of 3.8 out of 10 from 31 reviews is markedly lower than the audience scores. The film runs 84 minutes.
