VFW

VFW centers on a group of war veterans who gather at their local bar for what should be an ordinary evening of drinking and reminiscing. Their night is interrupted when a desperate young woman bursts in carrying a bag of stolen drugs. She is pursued by violent punks who want the drugs back, and the veterans, led by Fred, choose to stand between her and the gang. What follows is a siege in which the old soldiers defend the bar, the girl and themselves using whatever weapons they can find.

Joe Begos directed the film, which he made between Bliss and Christmas Bloody Christmas. Max Brallier and Matthew McArdle wrote the screenplay, and Dallas Sonnier, Amanda Presmyk and Josh Ethier produced it. The cast includes Stephen Lang as Fred, Martin Kove as Lou Clayton, William Sadler as Walter Reed, David Patrick Kelly as Doug McCarthy, Dora Madison as Gutter and Sierra McCormick as Lizard. The production had a budget of one million dollars.

With a running time of 92 minutes, VFW falls into the action, crime, horror and thriller genres. It received a film critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 52 reviews, higher than its audience scores: 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 10,000 votes and 5.8 out of 10 on TMDB from 274 votes.
