Unhinged

Unhinged is a thriller about a single mother named Rachel Flynn whose already difficult day takes a dangerous turn during a morning commute. Late getting her son Kyle to school and dealing with the pressures of a divorce, she honks at a driver who fails to move when the light changes. The man, identified in the credits as Tom Cooper, demands an apology, and when Rachel refuses, he begins following her. What starts as a road-rage encounter becomes a sustained campaign of revenge: he pursues not only Rachel but the people close to her, turning her ordinary routine into a fight to survive. Russell Crowe plays the stranger, with Caren Pistorius as Rachel and Gabriel Bateman as Kyle.

Derrick Borte directed the film, his second feature after The Joneses in 2010; it was followed by The Get Out in 2026. Carl Ellsworth wrote the screenplay, and Lisa Ellzey, Andrew Gunn and Mark Gill produced. The film runs ninety minutes and was made for a reported thirty-three million dollars, going on to take about thirty-nine million worldwide. Audiences rate it at six out of ten on IMDb from roughly eighty-six thousand votes and 6.4 out of ten on TMDB from about two thousand six hundred votes, while critics give it 5.4 out of ten across 208 reviews. Those numbers place it as a modestly received genre thriller rather than a standout for its director or lead.
