The White Tiger follows Balram Halwai, a young man from a poor Indian village who talks his way into a job as driver for a wealthy family. Bright and ambitious, he makes himself useful to his employers, Ashok and Pinky, who have recently returned from the United States. The arrangement turns dangerous after a night of betrayal, when Balram sees how far his masters will go to protect themselves. Facing the loss of everything, he turns against a rigged and unequal system to remake himself on his own terms. The story is based on the New York Times bestselling novel and is set in modern India.
Ramin Bahrani directed and wrote the screenplay, his third feature after 99 Homes and Fahrenheit 451. Adarsh Gourav plays Balram, with Rajkummar Rao as Ashok, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Pinky Madam, and Mahesh Manjrekar, Vijay Maurya and Kamlesh Gill in supporting roles. Ava DuVernay and Mukul Deora produced, and the film was made across India, the United States and Singapore.
