Hum Saath Saath Hain centres on the affluent Chaturvedi family, headed by businessman Ram Kishen and his wife Mamta, who live together in a large house with their daughter and three sons. The eldest son, Vivek, runs the family business and has raised his younger brothers, having injured his hand as a child while saving them. His marriage to Sadhana is followed by the engagements of Prem to a doctor, Preeti, and Vinod to Sapna, and the household appears complete. A dispute over property and the business then pulls the family apart, with Mamta working against her stepson and his wife, so that the closeness the family celebrated begins to break down.
Sooraj Barjatya directed and wrote the film, which was produced by Ajit Kumar, Kamal Kumar and Rajkumar Barjatya under the Rajshri Productions banner. It came in 1999, before Barjatya's later films Vivah and Yeh Prem Mol Liya. The large ensemble cast of 27 credits includes Mohnish Behl, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Karisma Kapoor. The film runs 177 minutes.
Released in November 1999, it took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from around 100 votes.
