The Marksman

Jim Hanson, a widowed rancher living near the Arizona-Mexico border, has withdrawn from the world after a military career behind him. His routine is upended when a woman and her young son, fleeing a Mexican cartel, cross onto his land. A shootout leaves the mother dead, and Jim reluctantly takes responsibility for the boy, Miguel. What begins as an obligation turns into a cross-country journey, with cartel killers and corrupt police in pursuit and Jim drawing on skills he thought he had left behind.

The film is directed by Robert Lorenz, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Charles and Danny Kravitz. It is his second feature as director, following Trouble with the Curve in 2012, and came before In the Land of Saints and Sinners in 2023. Liam Neeson leads as Jim, with Jacob Perez as Miguel, and Katheryn Winnick, Teresa Ruiz, Sean A. Rosales and Jose L. Vasquez among the supporting cast.

Released in January 2021, the film runs 108 minutes and is an American production. Against a budget of about 23 million dollars, it took in roughly the same amount worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from more than 1,700 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 110 reviews, a marked gap between professional and audience response.
