Inu-Oh

Set in fourteenth-century Japan, Inu-Oh follows two young outcasts who find each other and change their fortunes through performance. Inu-Oh was born with extraordinary physical features and has spent his life hidden under layers of clothing and a mask that conceals his face. Tomona, a blind biwa player, wanders the country after a curse robs him of his sight. When Tomona plays a song, Inu-Oh discovers a gift for dance, and the two become inseparable friends and business partners. Their bold concerts win them growing fame and draw audiences away from established court performers, which eventually brings them to the attention of those in power.

The film is directed by Masaaki Yuasa and written by Akiko Nogi. It follows Mind Game, Lu Over the Wall, Night Is Short, Walk On Girl and Ride Your Wave in Yuasa's filmography. Avu-chan voices Inu-Oh and Mirai Moriyama voices Tomona, with Tasuku Emoto, Kenjiro Tsuda, Yutaka Matsushige and Kuroemon Katayama among the supporting cast.

Released in 2022, the film runs 98 minutes and is an animated historical fantasy drama with a strong musical focus, made in Japan and Hong Kong. On IMDb it holds 7.1/10 from around 3,200 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7.4/10 from 173 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7/10 from 57 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
