Revue Starlight: The Movie

Revue Starlight: The Movie continues the story of the Seisho Music Academy, where students train in singing, dancing and stage combat to become performers. Karen Aijo and Hikari Kagura have been connected since childhood by a promise, though the paths that brought them to the academy differed. With Hikari gone, Karen has to work out who she is on her own, while Hikari must find her direction again. Other students also face the need to change if they are to reach their goals, and the stage keeps demanding its price.

The film is directed by Tomohiro Furukawa from a screenplay by Tatsuto Higuchi, with Teppei Nojima producing, and it follows the earlier television series in the director's filmography. The voice cast includes Momoyo Koyama as Karen, Suzuko Mimori as Hikari, Moeka Koizumi as Nana Daiba, Maho Tomita as Maya Tendo, Aina Aiba as Claudine Saijou and Haruki Iwata as Mahiru Tsuyuzaki, among roughly thirty credited performers.

Released in Japan in June 2021, the film runs two hours and mixes action, music, fantasy and drama. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.8 from a few hundred votes, while on TMDB it stands at 8.3 from a much smaller number of votes, indicating a warmly received title with a relatively modest audience footprint.
