The Ice Road

A remote diamond mine in northern Canada collapses, trapping a group of miners underground with limited air. The only way to bring in the heavy equipment needed to reach them is a convoy of trucks across a network of frozen lakes, a route that holds only while the ice does. An experienced driver, Mike McCann, joins the run, bringing along his brother Gurty, a veteran with his own difficulties, and an untested young trucker named Tantoo. The convoy is led by Jim Goldenrod, who assembles the team and sets the terms of the trip. Time is against them: the ice is softening with the season, a storm is closing in, and the convoy soon faces dangers beyond the road itself.

Jonathan Hensleigh directed and wrote the film, the third feature he directed, following The Punisher and Kill the Irishman. Liam Neeson plays Mike, with Amber Midthunder, Marcus Thomas, Holt McCallany and Laurence Fishburne among the principal cast.

Made for around 40 million dollars, the film earned roughly 8 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 from over 57,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from fewer than 2,000, and critics rated it 5 out of 10 across 91 reviews, placing it below the audience scores.
