Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a Japanese computer-animated action fantasy film set two years after the events of the game it continues. The city of Midgar lies in ruins, and its survivors are trying to rebuild. A new illness, Geostigma, is spreading among them with no known cure, wearing down the hope that had begun to return. Cloud Strife has withdrawn from his former companions, but a gang led by Kadaj draws him back into conflict, and their aims appear to involve the children in his care and the memory of Sephiroth.

The film was directed by Tetsuya Nomura and Takeshi Nozue, with a screenplay by Kazushige Nojima and production by Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto. It was the first feature either director made, and each went on to other projects in the years that followed. Takahiro Sakurai voices Cloud, with Ayumi Ito as Tifa Lockhart, Showtaro Morikubo as Kadaj, Maaya Sakamoto as Aerith Gainsborough, and Keiji Fujiwara and Taiten Kusunoki as Reno and Rude. The production involved Square Enix and several partner studios.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 from around 60,000 votes, and on TMDB it scores 7.2 from roughly 1,286 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 from eight reviews sits below both audience figures, suggesting that viewers responded to the film more warmly than reviewers did. It runs 101 minutes.
