Sandra, a young mother in Ireland, is determined to give her daughters a safe and stable home after leaving an abusive relationship. Faced with a housing system that offers her few options, she decides to build a house herself. What begins as a practical solution grows into something larger: with help from neighbours and members of her community, Sandra takes on the construction of a new home while rebuilding her own sense of self along the way.
The film is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the fourth feature in her filmography after Macbeth (2004), Mamma Mia! (2008) and The Iron Lady (2011). Clare Dunne stars as Sandra and co-wrote the screenplay with Malcolm Campbell. Molly McCann and Ruby Rose O'Hara play her daughters, with Ian Lloyd Anderson, Shadaan Felfeli and Harriet Walter among a credited cast of 32. Sharon Horgan, Ed Guiney and Rory Gilmartin produced for Element Pictures, BBC Film, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Merman.
Released in late 2020, the drama runs 97 minutes. It holds a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 5,300 votes, and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base of roughly 120 votes. The two audiences agree closely, indicating a film that has found a steady, modest appreciation rather than a sharply divided response.
