The Woman

The Woman follows a feral woman who has lived in the wild as part of a violent clan and becomes the last surviving member after her relatives are killed. Chris Cleek, a small-town lawyer with a picture-perfect family, captures her during a hunting trip and chains her in his cellar, intending to civilize her with the help of his wife and children. His decision pulls the household into a spiral of violence that threatens everyone involved.

Lucky McKee directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Jack Ketchum, adapting Ketchum's novel, which continues the story begun in the 2009 film Offspring. The cast includes Pollyanna McIntosh as the captive woman, Sean Bridgers as Chris Cleek, Angela Bettis as Belle Cleek, Lauren Ashley Carter as Peggy Cleek, Zach Rand as Brian, and Shyla Molhusen as Darlin' Cleek. McKee produced the film with Andrew van den Houten and Robert Tonino.

The film was made about eight years into McKee's directing career, after May (2003), The Woods and Sick Girl (both 2006), and Red (2008), and before All Cheerleaders Die (2013) and later features. Its critical reception sits at 6.3/10 from 52 reviews, while audiences rate it 6/10 on IMDb from 28,000 votes and 6.1/10 on TMDB from 610 votes, a consistent response across critics and viewers.
