Gerben Kooistra, a liberal politician from the north of the Netherlands, is appointed mayor of a small town in the south. He soon finds that crime runs through the community, and he sets out to take on a local criminal known as Grandpa Toontje. At the same time, his son becomes involved with the granddaughter of the man his father is hunting, while the mayor's campaign against the town's criminal networks turns into a personal fixation that puts him and his family at risk.
The crime film Hallali, released in early 2020, runs 90 minutes and was directed by Eché Janga, with Pupkin as the production company and production tied to the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles. The cast is led by Tibor Lukács as Gerben Kooistra, Bart Slegers as Toontje van Wanrooij, and Mike Weerts as Joery van Wanrooij, alongside Stefanie van Leersum, Patrick Stoof and Steef Cuijpers.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 197 votes, a modest reception from a small viewing audience.
