This documentary examines the 2009 killing of Javier Chocobar, a leader of the Chuschagasta Indigenous community in northern Argentina. The crime occurred when three armed men attempted to force the community off their land by claiming ownership of the property. Although the murder was recorded on video, the perpetrators remained free for nine years. The film uses courtroom footage, photographs, and personal accounts from the community to connect this event to a broader history of land dispossession and colonialism.
Lucrecia Martel directed the film, which followed her work on Leagues (2015) and Zama (2017). The screenplay was written by Martel and María Alché. The production involved a wide international collaboration across countries including Argentina, Germany, France, and the United States, with Mariana Carrizo appearing as a voice in the cast. The project was produced by Benjamín Doménech, Joslyn Barnes, and Santiago Gallelli, supported by a credited crew of 89 people. The film has a runtime of 119 minutes.
