Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet

Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet takes place as Tokyo prepares to host the World Sports Games, a global sporting event held every four years. The opening coincides with the launch of a vacuum superconducting maglev train capable of reaching 1,000 kilometers per hour between Nagoya and the capital, a project presented as a showcase of Japanese technology. During a reception for the games' sponsors, which Conan and his friends attend, senior executives of major companies begin to disappear. Conan's investigation leads him toward a possible link between the abductions and a similar kidnapping case that occurred 15 years earlier at the World Sports Games in Boston.

The film is directed by Chika Nagaoka, whose earlier work includes Case Closed: The Fist of Blue Sapphire and Utano Princesama Maji LOVE Kingdom; it sits between those titles and her later Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram. Takeharu Sakurai wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Minami Takayama as Conan Edogawa, Kappei Yamaguchi as Shinichi Kudo, Wakana Yamazaki as Ran Mouri, Rikiya Koyama as Kogoro Mouri, Shuichi Ikeda as Shuichi Akai and Ryotaro Okiayu as Subaru Okiya.

Released in April 2021, the film grossed about 95 million dollars worldwide, a strong result for an entry in this long-running anime series. Audience scores are moderate and closely aligned, at 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 2,200 votes and 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB from about 113 votes.
