Terrifier 2
Short description
A sinister entity brings Art the Clown back from the dead, and a year after the Miles County killings he returns home. His targets are teenage Sienna Shaw and her younger brother Jonathan, whose late father left behind sketches full of images that seem to foretell Art's arrival. As Halloween approaches and the bodies pile up, the siblings try to survive the night and work out what Art really is and where he came from.
Terrifier 2 is a horror thriller directed and written by Damien Leone, the fourth film he directed and the third entry featuring Art the Clown, following the 2018 Terrifier and preceding Terrifier 3 in 2024. David Howard Thornton returns as Art, with Lauren LaVera as Sienna, Elliott Fullam as Jonathan, Sarah Voigt as Barbara, Kailey Hyman as Brooke and Casey Hartnett as Allie. The large credited cast and crew, seventy and forty-three respectively, reflect a production handled by Dark Age Cinema, Bloody Disgusting, Fuzz on the Lens Productions and The Coven. It runs 138 minutes.
Released in October 2022, the film took in about 16 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for an independently made horror sequel. Audiences rate it 6 out of 10 on IMDb and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB, while critics give it 6.8 out of 10 from 83 reviews, so it lands slightly higher with critics than with the wider public.
What's left behind the scenes
- Lauren Laverne performed a significant portion of the stunts herself, as she practiced martial arts.
- According to director and screenwriter Damien Leone, the most difficult scene to film was Ellie's murder. For the filming of the final scene, in which Ellie's mother sees Art dismembering her daughter's body, an animatronic Ellie dummy was constructed. The entire room was a set, and the dummy was moved by operators using long poles under the bed and behind the wall. Rubber gloves and tubes were used to create the impression that the dummy was breathing.
- According to Damien Leone, the special effects in the film are 99% practical, but computer technology was still used in some cases. For example, when Ricky dies, a digital image of the actor's face was superimposed onto a prop head. This was done to show how the eye opens and closes. Another scene where computer technology was used was the moment in the bedroom, where an image of the actress's eye was overlaid on the dummy's face – the eye opened when she woke up.
