The Deep House

Tina and Ben are a young couple who make underwater exploration videos for YouTube. Diving in an isolated French lake, they find a house resting intact on the bottom. What begins as a remarkable discovery becomes a trap: the house was the site of terrible crimes, their air supply is running low, and they are not alone inside it.

The Deep House is a horror mystery directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, who also wrote the screenplay. It sits between Leatherface (2017) and Kandisha (2022) in the directing filmography the two share, which also includes Inside (2007), Livid (2011) and, later, The Soul Eater (2024). James Jagger plays Ben and Camille Rowe plays Tina, with Eric Savin, Marie Bernard, Marie Caffier and Carolina Massey in supporting roles. The production was mounted by Blumhouse Productions with Logical Pictures, XYZ Films and Apollo Films, and the film runs 85 minutes.

Released in mid-2021, the film took in about 2 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from roughly 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from around 1,100 votes, so the larger sample is the harsher of the two. A critics' rating of 6.3 out of 10 from 18 reviews places professional assessment slightly above the audience score on IMDb and close to the TMDB figure.
