Prey for the Devil

With reports of demonic possession on the rise, the Catholic Church reopens schools where priests are trained in the Rite of Exorcism. Sister Ann, a young nun convinced she has a calling for this work, is barred from the training because the ritual is reserved for priests. A mentor recognizes her gift and allows her to take part, and she is soon drawn into the case of a possessed young girl, a battle that connects to trauma in her own past. Jacqueline Byers plays Sister Ann, with Colin Salmon as Father Quinn, Christian Navarro as Father Dante and Ben Cross as Cardinal Matthews.

Daniel Stamm directed from a screenplay by Robert Zappia, with Paul Brooks, Todd Jones and Earl Richey Jones producing for Lionsgate, Gold Circle Films and Confluence Productions. It runs 93 minutes and was released in October 2022.

Stamm's fourth feature followed The Last Exorcism, 13 Sins and Down, and preceded Lockbox. Released in cinemas, the film took about 45 million dollars worldwide, a solid return for a horror title. Audiences are split: on IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from roughly 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8/10 from about a thousand. A critics' rating of 4.1/10 from 34 reviews is well below both audience scores, with whom it clearly found more favor.
