Pretty Maids All in a Row is a 1971 comedy-mystery set at Oceanfront High School in California, where female students are being murdered one by one. A married teacher who sleeps with his pupils becomes a suspect, a police captain works the case, and a shy student who seems to notice every girl around him stumbles onto evidence of the crimes.
Roger Vadim directed, working from a screenplay by Gene Roddenberry, who also produced. The film followed Vadim's Barbarella and Spirits of the Dead, both from 1968, and came well before his 1988 return to And God Created Woman. Rock Hudson plays the teacher Michael "Tiger" McDrew, with Angie Dickinson as Miss Betty Smith, Telly Savalas as Captain Sam Surcher, John David Carson as the student Ponce de Leon Harper, Roddy McDowall as Mr. Proffer and Keenan Wynn as Chief John Poldaski. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer produced the film, which runs 91 minutes and carries 42 credited cast members.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from roughly 50 votes, a modest response from a small number of viewers. Blending comedy with crime and mystery elements, the film mixes its murder investigation with satirical jabs at high school life and adult misconduct.
