Paarthale Paravasam centers on Dr. Madhava, a physician who becomes a popular figure after appearing in a film and quickly marries. Soon after the wedding, the truth about his past comes to light, straining the relationship and pushing the couple toward separation. The story moves between romance and family drama as the consequences of that revelation play out.
The film was directed and written by K. Balachander, and it is the thirteenth of the thirteen features he directed, arriving a decade after his previous one, Azhagan. R. Madhavan plays Dr. Madhava, with Simran as Simi and Raghava Lawrence as Azhagu. Vivek, Sneha and Seema appear in supporting roles. It was produced by Pushpa Kandaswamy and Rajam Balachandar for Kavithalayaa Productions, and runs 150 minutes across the action, drama, family and romance genres.
Released in November 2001, the film drew modest audience approval. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1 from 337 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5 out of 10 from a much smaller group of four votes. The two scores are close, and the larger IMDb sample suggests a mixed response rather than enthusiasm, with viewers rating it slightly below average.
