Something's Gotta Give

Harry Sanborn is a New York music executive who dates women much younger than himself. He goes to a beach house on Long Island for a weekend with his latest girlfriend, Marin, only to find that Marin's mother, Erica Barry, a divorced and successful playwright, intends to stay there too. Erica disapproves of the relationship and of Harry's attitudes. When Harry suffers a heart attack, a doctor orders rest, and Harry ends up recuperating in the Barry home under Erica's care. Attraction develops between the two, though Erica is also pursued by Harry's young doctor, Julian Mercer.

Nancy Meyers directed and wrote the film, and produced it with Bruce A. Block. It followed her earlier work as director, The Parent Trap and What Women Want, and was succeeded by The Holiday, It's Complicated, The Intern and Paris Paramount. Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton play Harry and Erica, with Keanu Reeves as Julian, Frances McDormand as Zoe, Amanda Peet as Marin and Jon Favreau as Leo, among a credited cast of 78. Made for around 80 million US dollars, it took about 270 million worldwide, a strong return for a romantic comedy of its length.

On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from roughly 138,000 votes, on TMDB 6.6/10 from about 1,800 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 6.7/10 from 172 reviews. The three scores sit close together, indicating a broadly similar response across audiences and critics.
