• All the actors playing Finns are from Australia and New Zealand, and they learned their lines in Finnish by ear.
• According to screenwriter Robert Benjamin, the idea came to him during a trip when, while in the airport, he noticed a family of foreigners looking at him askance. He jokingly thought they intended to kidnap and eat him. While waiting for his flight, he sketched out the film's scenario in broad strokes.
• While searching for locations, the filmmakers spotted Caleb Enoch going about his business and cast him as Pati.
• To show a close-up of the main character's amputated leg, they filmed a real person with an amputated leg.
