The Angry Red Planet

A manned mission to Mars loses contact with Earth after landing, and the spacecraft is eventually located far off course and brought home. Only two of the four astronauts are still alive, one of them badly injured and bearing a strange green growth on his arm. The other survivor tells scientists a disturbing account of what the crew encountered on the planet, a story that is drawn out under hypnosis and includes strange ruins, monstrous creatures and a warning meant for Earth.

The film was directed by Ib Melchior, who wrote the screenplay with producer Sidney W. Pink. Melchior had previously made The Time Travelers and would go on to direct Journey to the Seventh Planet the following year. Gerald Mohr plays Col. Thomas O'Bannion, with Naura Hayden as Dr. Iris Ryan, Les Tremayne as Prof. Theodore Gettell and Jack Kruschen as CWO Sam Jacobs. The supporting cast includes Paul Hahn and J. Edward McKinley. It was produced by American International Pictures with Sino Productions and runs 83 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.3 from about 4,300 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.5 from a much smaller number of votes, figures that suggest a modest but persistent following rather than wide acclaim.
