Ken Park

Ken Park is a drama set in Visalia, California, following a group of teenagers whose lives are touched by the suicide of the title character, a young skater. Shawn carries on a sexual relationship with the mother of his girlfriend. Tate, who lives with his grandparents, struggles with violent impulses. Claude endures the hostility of his alcoholic father while his pregnant mother offers little protection. Peaches cares for her deeply religious father but wants a life of her own. Around these young people and their parents, the film builds a portrait of a middle-class suburb where sex, aggression and frustration run beneath the surface.

The film was directed by Larry Clark, whose earlier features include Kids and Bully, and by cinematographer Edward Lachman, working from a screenplay by Harmony Korine. The cast includes James Ransone as Tate, Tiffany Limos as Peaches, Stephen Jasso as Claude, James Bullard as Shawn and Adam Chubbuck as Ken Park, with 27 credited cast members and 82 credited crew. Made for about 1 million dollars, it drew a mixed response: on IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 32,000 votes, on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 700 votes, while a critics' score of 5.1 out of 10 from 13 reviews places it below both audience measures.
