Teresa is a drama centered on a Carmelite nun and mystic within the Roman Catholic Church who has been isolated because of her beliefs. The story focuses on her anticipation of a meeting with an Inquisitor, whose judgment will determine whether she faces imprisonment, death, or freedom. The film is an adaptation of Juan Mayorga's play La lengua en pedazos, which is based on the historical figure of Saint Teresa of Avila.
Directed by Paula Ortiz, the film followed her work on Across the River and into the Trees and preceded her projects The Red Virgin and Petros Eni. Ortiz also co-wrote the screenplay with Javier García Arredondo. The cast features Blanca Portillo in the title role and Asier Etxeandia as the Inquisitor, with additional performances by Greta Fernández, Luis Bermejo, Consuelo Trujillo, and Claudia Traisac. A total of 23 actors are credited in the production, which was a joint effort between Spain and Belgium.
Since its release in November 2023, the film has received mixed to positive feedback from viewers. It holds a rating of 6/10 on IMDb based on 281 votes, while on TMDB it has a higher score of 7.1/10 from 15 votes.
