Kandahar

Kandahar follows Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative whose identity is exposed while he is on a mission in the Middle East. Stranded in hostile territory, he must cross the desert toward the Afghan city of Kandahar, where an extraction point offers his only way out. His Afghan translator, Mohammad "Mo" Doud, travels with him, and the two men have to rely on each other while elite special forces and foreign agents hunt them down. A ruthless assassin named Kahil Nasir is among those pursuing them.

The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, working from a screenplay by Mitchell LaFortune. It sits between Greenland and Greenland 2: Migration in Waugh's filmography, which also includes Felon, Snitch, Shot Caller and Angel Has Fallen. Gerard Butler, who plays Harris, produced alongside Basil Iwanyk and Alan Siegel. The cast includes Navid Negahban as Mo, Travis Fimmel as Roman Chalmers, Ali Fazal as Kahil Nasir, Bahador Foladi as Farzad Asadi and Nina Toussaint-White as Luna Cujai, with 24 credited cast members and 103 credited crew. The production was a co-production of the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Saudi Arabia, made by Thunder Road, G-BASE, Capstone Pictures and MBC Studios.

Released in May 2023, the film runs 119 minutes. Against a budget of 30 million dollars, it took about 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from over 26,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.8 out of 10 from around 1,300 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 103 reviews is lower than both audience scores.
